Social Housing and Community for Young Adults

BA Diploma project at MOME 2021

Budapest’s 8th district has always been a place of transition, historically home to working-class communities, and more recently, a growing number of young people drawn to its relatively affordable rents. But in the past two decades, rapid gentrification has reshaped the area, especially with projects like Corvin Sétány. What was once a dense, lively neighborhood of small apartments and courtyards has been replaced by high-end residential buildings, office towers, and shopping centers. While these developments promise “revitalization,” they often come at the cost of displacing long- term residents and pushing up living costs.

In this shifting environment, this project offers an alternative: a social housing project designed specifically for young adults, where architecture isn’t just about providing shelter but about fostering community. By integrating different types of spaces, private apartments, shared corridors, and public workshops, the building encourages residents to connect with each other, creating a more sustainable and supportive way of living.
